How to Plan and Implement the 2018 English Stage 6 Curriculum and Survive Auditing Part II
Where does one start?
The enormity of the project can be overwhelming.
Be comforted by following these instructions; it will help relieve your stress.
Starting points can be different for all teachers.
I like to begin with the English Stage 6 Prescriptions: Modules, Electives and Texts 2019- 2023.
You need to choose the Year 12 texts first, I believe. Then you can complement them with your chosen Year 11 texts.
Look at page 5 of the PDF. Choose the Standard English Course first and follow the text requirements.
HSC English Standard text requirements
Close study of THREE TYPES OF PRESCRIBED TEXTS, one drawn from EACH of the following categories:
prose fiction
poetry OR drama
film OR media OR nonfiction.
At least TWO short prescribed texts must be studied for Module C: The Craft of Writing but do not contribute to the required pattern of prescribed texts for the course.
Students must also study ONE related text in the Common Module: Texts and Human Experiences.
Page 9 of the PDF has a handy table for you to fill out so that you don’t forget anything.
This is where it gets tricky…

The two short prescribed texts studied for
Module C: The Craft of Writing
do not contribute to the required pattern of prescribed texts for the course.
Module C: Support Document
Go back to your H.S.C texts requirements planner and make sure that you have a text in each box.
Ask yourself:
Do we have access to these texts?
Are they in the book room or available through Clickview or on the Internet?
Does our school budget allow for the purchasing of new texts? If so, how much?
What texts will I now choose for Year 11? This will be discussed next week in:
How to Plan and Implement the 2018 English Stage 6 Curriculum and Survive Auditing Part III
Hoping that all of your students with colds this week, will avoid you like the plague,
Until next week,
Mil 😊
